She took over her father's dojo after he passed away and she runs it by herself - as the assistant master of the Kamiya Kasshin style which her father developed. She is fully independent and is able to protect herself and the people around her. She acts as a mother and older sister to her friends, she takes care of them and offers them free housing in her dojo. Kaoru is definitely a strong woman. In the beginning, an evil man appeared and tried to ruin the reputation of her dojo by using the Kamiya Kasshine style while claiming that he was the Battousai, a brutal manslayer. After meeting Kenshin, who was once the real Battousai, he challenged him to a showdown by kidnapping Kaoru. He put a special curse on her that prevented her from breathing and said that the curse would kill her if Kenshin did not kill him in less than five minutes, or Kaoru could try to overcome the curse on her own (which he did not believe possible, typical man). Kenshin couldn't kill the man unless he became the Battousai once more. Kaoru did not want to see this happen and she struggled to tell him. Kenshin decided that he would become a manslayer again for the sake of saving Kaoru. However, just before he reverted back to his old ways, Kaoru overcame the curse and told him not to kill anyone. With Kaoru free of the curse, Kenshin was able to defeat the man without killing him.  |
